Aston Villa on Tuesday announced that coach Unai Emery has extended his contract with the club for an extra season until the end of June 2027.

Emery's previous deal was due to expire in June 2026 and the contract extension comes thanks to the excellent job the Spaniard has done at the Premier League club since replacing Steven Gerrard in November 2022 when they were fighting to avoid relegation.

He ended his first season in charge by leading Villa to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, qualifying them for the Europa Conference League.

This season Villa is currently fourth in the table with a six-point lead over Tottenham (who has played two fewer matches) and is preparing for a Conference League semifinal against Olympiakos, with hopes of their first European semifinal since 1982.

The former Valencia, Arsenal, Villarreal and Sevilla coach also has the best points-per-game record of any Villa manager in the Premier League era (1.95 per game), achieving 35 wins in 59 games.
